Login credentials of more than 32 million twitter accounts are being sold on the dark web for 10 Bitcoins which is over $5,800 by the Seller whose name is Tessa88 and it was the same hacker who was found selling 1 million VK user IDs and passwords on dark web. According to LeakedSource, a security firm says that the twitter ids and passwords are being traded on dark web forums and they also mentioned that about 32,888,300 records containing email addresses, usernames and passwords have been leaked LeakedSource also mentioned that they had very strong evidence that Twitter was not hacked, but the leaked credentials are real and valid. “We have very strong evidence that Twitter was not hacked, rather the consumer was. These credentials, however, are real and valid. Out of 15 users we asked, all 15 verified their passwords.” Michael Coates, the trust and information Security officer at twitter, tweeted that they have investigated the report based on dark web, and they are confident that twitter has not been breached.
— Michael Coates (@_mwc) June 9, 2016 According to LeakedSource, the data leak was because of malware “The explanation for this is that tens of millions of people have become infected by malware, and the malware sent every saved username and password from browsers like Chrome and Firefox back to the hackers from all websites including Twitter.” The users are recommended to change their passwords for all social media sites as many hacking attempts are noticed in recent times, So it’s better to change the password and be safe!
